"Have you ever known fear? I mean real fear. Not the kind of fear that simply makes you gasp?"

"What are you talking about?"

"Fear, the kind that could kill, don't tell me you never heard of it?"

"I have no idea what you're talking about."

"Sure you do. You've heard the expression 'scared to death'. Don't you know that is a real condition?"

"Alright, I suppose but that still doesn't tell me what the hell you are talking about."

"I told you already, f-e-a-r, fear."

"Yah, yah I know a fear so bad it can kill you. Now what is your point?"

"I don't think you want to know."

"Because it is standing right behind you."

"Yes, 'it' as in the beast."

"Why the hell didn't you say so?"

"Because, you're in a red shirt and the law of his people says he will eat you first."

"Oh, come on, that is just plain stupid."

"Stupid or not, I'm not the one being eaten."

The lounge was crowded. A delectable table set out for the crew's final dinner on board the Enterprise. Everyone was talking amongst themselves.

Spock stood beside the banquet table as he selected his food, then lifted the red potato to his lips and devoured it in one bit. The neighboring fish was saved from the same fate, thanks to vegetarianism.
