To sleep perhaps to dream

Catherine Kay

Mr. Spock is laying in bed like a work of art in his still as a statue form, the light falling on his ebony hair so beautifully that it takes my breath away as fantasy of my fingers dancing through its luscious thickness wickedly buzzes through my burning brain so that I can no longer remember what is fantasy and what is reality, for fantasy is how I spend most of my waking hours as I wend the over long and often onerously menial tasks of sickbay under the behest of the saintly Dr. McCoy who is at times a curmudgeon but is a father figure to me still, though he has his own daughter and I know that I could never replace her in his heart of hearts, but be that as it may, his testiness towards Spock is only the outgrowth of his fatherly affection that he has towards him as if he were a wayward child in constant need of guidance lest he falls and he has fallen, fallen for me and I can hardly wait as I languish here beside him while an evil spell is being lifted by the so gentle hands of our gifted healer ... why, even now he is assuring me that the side effects of the migraine medication may interfere with some of my thought processes and that I should leave now in order to take my rest; but, oh, alas dear mentor, how can I possibly leave you or your beautiful Adonis charge, alone, and bereft of any aid should some terrible side effect of the tritium gas not as yet known should befall you both as we were all surprised and struck down by the hideous plot of a young yeoman who couldn't read Klingon and accidentally opened the container without venting the preservative gas ... oho what can you do about such a debacle, but the important thing is that I am fine and Spock is fine and the yeoman, poor uneducated waif, is fine and now that I am feeling tired ... I think ... I will ... curl up ... next ..... to .... Spock ..... and ......... sleep.
